the innovators creating todays mapping revolution
how Kaart started
Kaart was envisioned through travel in Central and South America in 2004. During these travels, it became apparent that the GPS device that was being used was of little benefit without detailed map data displayed. After returning from these trips, Kaarts founder Aaron moved to Cape Town, South Africa and began tinkering with different GIS data and developed a local scale map of Cape Town for his own use. After some testing and extensive on-the-ground use of this map, he offered it to others online to gauge the demand for such a product. In January 2007, GPSTravelMaps.com was created with corresponding web-store to offer these maps for other travelers to use while traveling. Over the next 10 years, country level GIS data was created and licensed to organizations throughout the world. Kaart now employees more than 150 experienced GIS Editors and Engineers who are passionate about maps and improving data for people to utilize in their local neighborhoods and throughout the world.
